Drug & Alcohol Testing

Urine Testing

Urine testing is the most commonly used drug testing method and is recognized by the US DOT and the Canadian Model. Lab based urine drug testing allows you choose from a large number of drugs for your testing program and receive quantitative results for most positive tests. Using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS), these results are accurate and legally defensible. ECMM uses Dynacare Laboratory, a SAMHSA certified lab, for all its urine drug testing, including DOT and NON-DOT testing. Reports are received from Dynacare Laboratory on a daily basis, and urine-based result reports are typically available 24-72 hours after the lab receives the specimen.

Oral Fluid Testing

Lab based oral fluid testing provides you the results for most recent drug use. These samples are collected under direct observation by a certified technician via easy-to-use oral swab. The convenience of this collection method eliminates the need for private facilities and reduces the possibility of sample tampering. ECMM uses Dynacare Laboratory, a SAMHSA certified lab, providing quantitative results for positive tests that are accurate and legally defensible. Reports are received from Dynacare Laboratory on a daily basis, and oral fluid based result reports are usually available 24-72 hours after the lab receives the specimen.

Hair Follicle

Hair follicle drug testing is used to detect historical drug use. Testing for drugs in hair allows for detection of drug use up to 90 days or more prior to the collection date. Hair can be segmented to provide a picture of past drug use. 30, 60, 90 day segmentation allows for a view of the use of drugs over a longer time frame and monitor the levels of drugs in each segment. The lab requires ½ inch of hair length for each segment tested. Body hair can be tested if head hair is either not available or not the required lengthIt is important to note that body hair cannot be segmented and will provide an approximate 12 month window of detection. ECMM uses the US-based laboratory, Omega, for all hair follicle testing.

Point of Collection/Rapid Tests

Point of Collection Tests (POCT) are a convenient screening device used to provide instant results. These are commonly used as a workplace safety tool, particularly in post-accident and reasonable cause situations. ECMM offers this rapid testing option for both urine and oral fluid sample types and are available in various panel configurations. As these devices are screening tools, any samples with an inconclusive result must be sent to the lab for confirmation testing before a final result may be released. All kits and supplies used by ECMM are Health Canada approved and provide reliable results.

Alcohol Testing

Breath Alcohol testing is performed using an Evidential Breath Testing (EBT) device to determine current blood alcohol concentration and provide immediate results. The EBT devices used by ECMM are approved by both Health Canada and US DOT Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration. The devices are calibrated to US DOT and the Canadian Model requirements, which ensure accurate and reliable testing.

Urine Alcohol testing is used to determine exposure to alcohol for up to three days, or longer depending on the program requirements.
